How do I purchase Professional Liability Insurance?<\/summary>\n

Once AIC-ON has processed your candidate membership, you will be provided a welcome email with information regarding next steps including instructions on purchasing liability insurance.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

What type of insurance must I purchase?<\/summary>\n

Fee vs. Non-Fee Classification \u2013 Which are you?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is important that you understand the distinction as it may affect whether you have proper insurance coverage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fee<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you prepare or assist in the preparation of an appraisal report, (regardless of whether you sign the report) and the report is provided to a third party that relies upon it, then you should consider yourself a \u201cFee\u201d Member<\/u>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Non-Fee<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are not currently working<\/strong> as an appraiser or<\/p>\n\n\n\n

you prepare or assist in the preparation of an appraisal report and the report is used internally and is NOT provided to a third party, then you should consider yourself a \u201cNon-Fee\u201d Member<\/u>.  (e.g. you are employed by a municipality and prepare reports for internal use only)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How much does Professional Liability Insurance cost?<\/summary>\n

Every year AIC provides a communication regarding the breakdown for Insurance costs and rationale. Please see the cost range for the 2024 insurance with a 2023 comparable:<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

If I am not working and still wish to become a candidate member, am I required to purchase insurance?<\/summary>\n

Professional Liability Insurance must be purchased immediately upon<\/u> becoming a Candidate member.<\/strong> This coverage is mandatory for all<\/u> Candidate Members\u2013 whether you are actively working in the industry or not.  <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

Am I required to pay the insurance fee in full?<\/summary>\n

Members can pro-rate their payments OR pay in full for the year.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

Am I required to purchase insurance through AIC’s Insurance Program?<\/summary>\n

It is mandatory for all members to purchase insurance through AIC’s Professional Liability Insurance program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Working in the best interest of our members, the AIC\u2019s Insurance program exists to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 create a stable guaranteed source of insurance for members;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 ensure adequate coverage can be obtained under reasonable terms;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 provide dedicated, professional insurance services to members at a reasonable cost, directly related to the claims experience of the profession;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 minimize administrative « red tape<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

What is the insurance cycle?<\/summary>\n

The insurance cycle runs from January 1st until December 31st.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n
