Bring your leadership expertise to the City of Edmonton as the Supervisor, Leasing with the Real Estate Branch; our Branch combines real estate and land development expertise to create synergies across a diverse portfolio: we own, lease, maintain and operate the City's inventory of real property (land, buildings and facilities). We provide expert real estate services to the corporation and integrate multiple corporate interests so that Council can achieve its vision. 
As the Supervisor, Leasing you will focus on creating the conditions for success of the Section and Unit which includes working with citizens, industry leaders, Directors and the network of leaders throughout the City. 
Working within an integrated business model, the Supervisor, Property Transactions (Leasing) is accountable for: 
  • The operations, management and administration of the City’s real property, including marketing and dispositions of real estate assets and/or property acquisitions to meet Corporate revenue requirements, needs of client departments and to respond to City Council initiatives and priorities 
  • Actively participate in the development of strategies and business process planning for the Section 
  • Translate strategy and direction into the implementation of operational and business plans at the section level 
  • Lead a team of Property Agents and related support staff to ensure that projects and work plan objectives are delivered on time, on budget and within scope 
  • Lead, establish and exemplify the desired culture throughout the section that supports the Real Estate Branch as well as the Corporate Cultural Commitments 
  • Monitor and manage risk to unit operations and projects as well as to the City and its reputation 
  • Build strong relationships across the Department and other areas of the City to ensure alignment and support an integrated project development/delivery business model 
  • Create and implement asset management/lease disposal strategies in coordination with key stakeholders 
  • Review strategies periodically and modify where necessary to encourage revenue generation/growth while staying in alignment with corporate outcomes 
  • Ensure robust and proactive stakeholder engagement plans, activities and processes are developed and implemented 
  • Oversee annual unit operating budget to ensure corporate objectives are achieved 
  • Regular, ongoing supervision, direction and evaluation of reports 
  • Engage and support staff in developing action plans to enhance communication, solve problems creatively, promote integration and support excellence


  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Commerce, Business Administration, Law or a related discipline 
  • Professional designation such as an Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute (AACI) appraisal designation or an equivalent designation 
  • Five (5) years progressively responsible experience in diverse real estate negotiations, land development and/or real estate sales/marketing experience, including 4 years at a supervisory level, preferably within a unionized environment 
  • Extensive experience in real estate negotiations and/or appraisals and project planning/coordination 
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with Expropriation Act, Municipal Government Act, Real Estate Act, real estate and agency law 
  • Demonstrated leadership and team building skills, with experience mentoring teams while dealing with high workloads and shifting priorities 
  • Ability to analyze complex information and make timely decisions using solution based problem solving 
  • Demonstrated skills in facilitation of groups with competing interests and priorities 
  • Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills with experience in solving complex and sensitive issues 
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to develop strong relationships and work in a collaborative, integrated manner 
  • Experience with change management is required 
  • Experience managing and working with external consultants and contractors 
  • Highly developed management, supervisory, and negotiation skills 
  • Experience with the Google platform is preferred and experience with TRIRIGA would be beneficial 
  • Excellent communication (written, verbal and presentation), interpersonal, political acumen skills required 
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Must arrange your own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require business auto insurance 
  • Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
