In my role as an Assessment Assistant within The City of Calgary’s Assessment Business Unit, my responsibilities involve reviewing current and past MLS sale listings to ensure an accurate reflection of the current market. I am also heavily involved in utilizing in-house software to interpret and analyze construction permits pertaining to the processes of property value determination within Calgary for taxation purposes. Additionally, the skills I have developed from daily assignments and ad hoc projects have prepped me well to handle working with large volumes of data while managing, ensuring, and maintaining accuracy.
My educational background in pursuing an AACI designation with the Appraisal Institute of Canada has allowed me to develop skills pertaining to the principles of appraisal and the three approaches to valuation. Past courses provided an opportunity to write an appraisal report using the sales comparison approach and cost approach on residential property while looking at multiple variables such as depreciation, remaining economic life, and highest and best use. I have also worked on projects that involve statistical analysis on variables affecting ASR values and the important role they play in mass appraisals for market valuation. Furthermore, my BSC Degree in Geography has allowed me to develop analytic skills working with spatial data using Microsoft Excel and ArcGIS. I have acquired transferable skills in conducting research and writing reports from an academic setting to a professional environment. Additionally, constant collaboration within group projects has allowed me to hone my teamwork skills to communicate clearly and effectively. I also have ample experience in using software such as Python and writing code for ArcGIS for different spatial data tasks.
I am also passionate about volunteering and have actively assisted the Calgary Comic Expo for 8 years where I helped different teams such as Creator Guests and Hospitality to assist artists, manage deliveries, and adhere to safety measures. I was also heavily involved with onboarding new volunteers in leading and facilitating training.
I remain enthusiastic about learning and constantly pursuing new challenges and I strongly believe that my previous experiences have prepared me for success within this position.
