Mike Garcelon is the Manager, Risk at the Appraisal Institute of Canada, where he leads the development and delivery of the Institute’s national Work Product Review and quality assurance programs. In this role, he is responsible for advancing consistent, fair, and practical review processes that support members in meeting professional standards while strengthening confidence in appraisal practice across Canada. 

Mike brings more than 35 years of experience in real property valuation, including extensive work across residential, commercial, industrial, and specialized asset classes in urban, rural, and remote markets. Over the course of his career, he has authored or overseen thousands of appraisal and consulting assignments, including complex valuations for litigation, expropriation, arbitration, and advisory purposes, and has provided expert testimony before courts and review boards.  

Prior to joining AIC, Mike held senior leadership roles in national valuation firms, where he was responsible for professional practice, quality control, and large-scale operational oversight. His experience includes designing and implementing internal review frameworks, training appraisers, and leading initiatives to improve report quality, consistency, and efficiency across multi-disciplinary teams. 

Mike has been an active volunteer with the Appraisal Institute of Canada throughout his career, including serving on national committees focused on standards, professional practice, and peer review. He is widely recognized for his practical approach to applying CUSPAP in real-world assignments and his commitment to supporting members in delivering credible, defensible appraisal work.
