Robson Associates Inc. is a boutique appraisal firm known for its expertise in handling unconventional appraisal challenges, often associated with legal proceedings. Throughout its history, the company has been engaged in diverse and intricate assignments, including landmark cases such as the 1988 Ataratiri expropriations, the Yonge-Dundas Square redevelopment expropriations, and the Etobicoke’s Motel Strip parkland requirements/expropriation.

Established in 1988 as Robson, McLean and Associates Ltd., the firm traces its roots back to the early 1970s when it began its practice in Toronto’s Central Business District. Its founders recognized a niche for specialized services focusing on industrial, commercial, expropriation, and litigation-oriented appraisals.

With a deep understanding of the industrial, commercial, and development land markets and extensive experience navigating complex valuation issues, our team of professionals is well-equipped to provide expert assistance.

Position Overview:

The Research Analyst/Junior Real Estate Appraiser position will support the appraisal team in conducting thorough research, analysis, and valuation of various types of real estate properties.  This role will involve gathering and analyzing market data, conducting property inspections, and assisting in preparing appraisal reports.  The ideal candidate will have a strong analytical mindset, excellent research skills, and a passion for real estate.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and analysis of real estate market trends, comparable sales, and property data.
  • Assist in conducting property inspections and gathering relevant information on-site.
  • Analyze financial statements, leases, and other pertinent documents related to real estate properties.
  • Assist in preparing written appraisal reports in compliance with the Canadian Uniform Standards of the Appraisal Institute of Canada.
  • Collaborate with senior appraisers to ensure accuracy and completeness of appraisal assignments.
  • Stay updated on industry developments, market trends, and regulatory changes affecting real estate valuation.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • AACI designation in progress is preferred (completion of BUSI 330 – Foundations of Real Estate Appraisal is preferred).
  • Strong analytical, quantitative and research skills with attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of real estate valuation methods and appraisal techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and other relevant software applications.
  • Experience with financial modelling and report writing is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Prior experience in real estate research, appraisal, or related field is a plus but not required.
  • Willingness to travel locally; a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle are preferred.
