Working full-time in the past at Shopify fucled my interest in investment banking as I gained real-world exposure to the buy-side and its relationship to the sell-side. 

By constructing detailed monthly updates, quarterly reports, and presentations for over 35 institutional clients, I developed strong multitasking abilities and meticulous attention to detail. Using these skills in the DECA Case Competition in my past, I was fascinated by the process my team underwent to develop a strategic recommendation and financial model under pressing time constraints. Through valuing an acquisition target and creating a presentation, I experienced the exciting challenges and rewards of M&A advisory work, further confirming my aspirations to pursue a career in investment banking. At the University of Ottawa, as Head Coordinator for the non-profit organization International Finance Club, I have developed effective leadership and teamwork skills critical when performing on a deal team. I have held these leadership positions while performing in various campus musical groups, competing in Intramural Sports, and maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.88. 

Balancing all these commitments has taught me efficient time management skills and has conditioned me for the intensity and long hours required in investment banking. The skills I have developed from my professional, extracurricular, and academic experiences have prepared me to take on the challenges at your firm. Not long ago, it was decided that my childhood years were dedicated to the “decade of the dot-com” by those that be. Ever so impressionable, I had a genuine interest in the intricate inner workings of the cyber world. This led me to pursue an undergraduate degree in international management with the ultimate goal of becoming a global tech consulting firm. Upon taking several courses in management and culture, I realized that in studying commerce, one could not exclude ethics. 

As such, my interests at the close of my undergraduate career had enmeshed me to comprehend legal education pertaining to my values as a child. To develop these interests, I pursued a career in Real Estate at Century 21 Percy Fulton. My educational and work experiences have convinced me to pursue my interest in law. As an undergraduate management student at the University of Ottawa, I was able to take a leadership role while working on a case study involving TELUS Mobility. Through this experience, I demonstrated my ability to delegate roles and ensure smooth communication between group members while enhancing my own. Furthermore, my time as a field agent at Kognitive Marketing allowed me the opportunity to exercise my strength in building systems. With some innovation and creative resource allocation, I constructed a financially stable marketing plan in place of one yielding no revenue. Certainly, proficient communication and ingenuity are paramount in preparing for the future challenge of nuanced legal arguments. 

Lastly, I anticipate that my extensive familiarity with cybersecurity and e-commerce gained from my internship at Shopify will not only be beneficial in helping me excel at technological course components but ultimately equip me with the ability to use these resources as a means to expand access to justice. As Malcolm X said, “education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” Being granted experience as a Juris Doctor candidate would allow me to encounter an unparalleled intellectual exercise with vast prospective applicability. Accordingly, I am seeking your assistance in the pursuit of enhancing my current skills, in combination with my knowledge of the law, to become a respectable legal representative. When I was an employee at Canadian Tire Financial Bank in association with Kognitive Marketing, I led a financially stable marketing plan in place of one that was not bringing the company revenue. This experience was a success and furthered my skill set in task management for various large-scale and organizational needs. Furthermore, it relates that students should have excellent written/verbal communication skills, such as experience in communication fields stimulated by Shopify. In my experience as a student, while working on a case study on TELUS Mobility, I was able to lead my fellow group members through communicating our findings for the general public to act. Moreover, I was also able to take a leadership role in helping allocate roles for my group members, making communication easier.
