Join the Investigating Working Group at AIC National
The Appraisal Institute of Canada (AIC) is seeking dedicated and experienced Professional Practice Investigators to join its Investigating Working Group.
This is a unique volunteer opportunity to contribute directly to upholding the integrity of the appraisal profession and protecting the public interest. Bilingual applicants (French/English) are strongly encouraged to apply.
About the Role
Reporting to the Professional Practice Committee, members of the Investigating Working Group are responsible for reviewing and investigating complaints related to the conduct of AIC Members and appraisal reports.
Working closely with AIC staff, investigators will ensure that files are handled efficiently, consistently, and in full alignment with AIC policies and Canadian Uniform Standards of Professional Practice (CUSPAP), reinforcing trust in the profession.
What You’ll Contribute
As an Investigator, you will help advance the Group’s mandate by:
- Conducting thorough and consistent investigations into complaints against Members
- Preparing clear, well-supported expert reports within reasonable timelines
- Upholding the highest standards of professional review and reporting
- Supporting the disciplinary process, including serving as an expert witness when required
- Providing recommendations for remediation or mitigation in matters impacting professional integrity
- Identifying areas where clarification of CUSPAP may be needed
Key Responsibilities
In accordance with AIC’s Professional Practice Review Policy, Investigators will:
- Review inquiries that did not proceed to formal complaints and, where appropriate, initiate Professional Practice Reviews
- Receive and manage assigned review files from AIC
- Conduct investigations and prepare comprehensive Investigation Reports
- Submit findings to a Professional Practice Advocate
- Participate as a witness in Adjudicating and/or Appeal Working Group hearings
- Perform additional duties required to support the proper administration of review files
Investigations are conducted using the “Reasonable Appraiser” standard when assessing compliance with CUSPAP.

Time Commitment
Participation in AIC Professional Practice activities is essential to the Institute’s mandate.
- This role requires an ongoing commitment of time and engagement, and applicants should ensure their schedules allow for active, ongoing engagement. Your contributions will play a critical role in maintaining public trust and professional excellence.
Meeting requirements
- Quarterly virtual meetings.
- One in-person meeting annually. Participants will be compensated.

Il s’agit d’une occasion unique de contribuer directement au maintien de l’intégrité de la profession et à la protection du public. Les candidats bilingues (français/anglais) sont fortement encouragés à postuler.
À propos du rôle
Relevant du Comité de pratique professionnelle, les enquêteurs sont responsables d’examiner et d’enquêter sur les plaintes liées à la conduite des membres de l’ICE et aux rapports d’évaluation.
En collaboration étroite avec le personnel de l’ICE, ils veillent à ce que les dossiers soient traités de manière efficace, cohérente et conforme aux politiques de l’ICE et aux Normes uniformes de pratique professionnelle en matière d’évaluation au Canada (NUPPEC).
Votre contribution
À titre d’enquêteur, vous contribuerez à :
- Mener des enquêtes rigoureuses et cohérentes sur les plaintes
- Préparer des rapports d’enquête clairs et bien étayés
- Maintenir les plus hauts standards de révision professionnelle
- Appuyer le processus disciplinaire, notamment comme témoin expert
- Fournir des recommandations pour la remédiation ou l’atténuation dans des questions affectant l’intégrité professionnelle
- Identifier lorsque nécessaire les besoins de clarification des normes NUPPEC
Principales responsabilités
- Examiner les demandes préliminaires et, au besoin, initier un examen de pratique professionnelle
- Gérer les dossiers assignés par l’ICE
- Réaliser les enquêtes et produire des rapports complets
- Soumettre les conclusions à un représentant en pratique professionnelle
- Participer aux audiences des groupes d’arbitrage et d’appel
- Effectuer des tâches supplémentaires nécessaires pour soutenir la bonne administration des dossiers d’examen
Les enquêtes sont menées selon la norme de « l’évaluateur raisonnable » lors de l’évaluation de la conformité au NUPPEC.
